DTF Pressing Instruction
Prepare Materials: Set heat press to 300°F heavy pressure; cut and trim transfer sheet
Pre-Press Shirt: Lay shirt, pre-press 7 seconds to remove moisture
Position Transfer: For centered graphic it should be 3" below neckline.
Press & Peel: Press 7 seconds, cool ~15s, peel corner away from shirt, then second press
Handle Fine Details: Use microfiber cloth and rub transfer before peeling
Secure Small Prints: For tiny designs, tape edges with heat tolerant tape before pressing to prevent lifting
Use Heat Press Pillow: Insert pillow in garments with seams/zippers for even pressure
Q&A
Why is pre-pressing important?
A: Pre‑pressing the garment for about seven seconds helps remove moisture from the fabric, which improves adhesion of the transfer. The speaker notes that you can even see steam dissipate during this step, and that a dry, flat surface allows the film to bond more effectively under heat and pressure.
How do you align transfers accurately?
A: The video shows several alignment methods: measuring roughly three fingers (about 2.5–3 inches) down from the collar, using thumbs or fingers to check equal spacing on each side, and pulling the shirt so the collar sits just past the press platen edge. This ensures designs are centered, straight, and avoids scorch marks along seams by keeping them outside the heated area.
What’s the trick for tiny details?
A: For very small fonts, neck tags, or intricate graphics like a QR code, the presenter uses two key tricks: securing the transfer with heat‑resistant tape so it doesn’t shift, and gently swiping over the pressed design with a microfiber cloth before peeling. The cloth helps distribute heat into fine areas, while careful corner selection and peeling away from the shirt prevent lifting delicate elements.
Important Tips
Temperature and Time: Adjust the temperature and pressing time based on the fabric type. For cotton blends, use 320°F to 330°F; for synthetic fabrics, lower the temperature to 275°F to 280°F.
Peeling Method: My DTF Transfers are all cold peel. Cool the garment after pressing before peeling. Peel from the corner with the least details. Peel away from the corner and do not pull up but pull away.
By following these instructions, you can achieve vibrant, long-lasting DTF prints on various fabric types. Always test a sample if you're unsure about the settings for a specific material.
Washing and Care Info
First Wash: Wait at least 24 hours after application before washing the garment to ensure the transfer sets properly.
Proper care of DTF printed garments involves gentle washing, cold water, air drying, and careful handling to maintain vibrant, durable prints.
Washing Guidelines
Turn garments inside out before washing to protect the DTF print from friction and abrasion during the cycle.
Use cold water (30°C / 86°F or lower) to prevent fading, shrinking, or damage to the adhesive.
Select a gentle or delicate cycle on your washing machine to minimize agitation.
Use mild detergent and avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, which can degrade the print.
Avoid fabric softeners, as they may weaken the adhesion of the DTF transfer.
Hand washing is the gentlest option, especially for delicate fabrics, by gently squeezing rather than twisting or wringing.
Wash with similar colors to prevent dye transfer and maintain print integrity.
Drying Guidelines
Air dry naturally by hanging or laying flat in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Avoid tumble drying, as high heat can cause cracking, warping, or peeling of the print.
Ironing and Heat Care
Do not iron directly on the DTF print. If ironing is necessary, place a protective cloth over the print and use low heat.
